No Fear!

No Fear!

And he saith unto them, Be not affrighted: Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, which was crucified: he is risen; he is not here: behold the place where they laid him. Mark 16:6 KJV

This is the Easter season, but it is also a season of fear and uncertainty due to events around the world. The birth, death and resurrection of Jesus should inspire hope and faith that God holds and knows the future but it is apparent that the devil is trying to take our eyes off the finished work of Christ and to keep them focused on his own evil schemes. Today's extract reminds us again of what is truly important.

Oh, there was a basis for fear. The One whom they all knew and followed had just been put to death like a common criminal, and had been buried under a Roman guard. Then a few women came to anoint his body and they found his body gone and an angel declaring strange news. What is your fear: uncertainty, death, lack, debt or poor health? The words of the angel are timely for this season..

Jesus is the only way to conquer this fear. His life is the proof that God has got it all under control. There is a specific Jesus, the One from Nazareth, who has sealed eternal life for me. Every other 'god' or authority or power bows to the Lordship of Jesus. If you will truly subdue your fear, the secret is in Jesus.

His death and resurrection are real events, not figments of anyone's imagination. He died and was buried in the full view of the people of His time so no accounts can deny these events. You do not bury a man publicly, under a Roman guard, and then claim publicly that his body was stolen. If that was, why were the disciples not arrested?

The fact that there was no body found, and the fact that the angel pointed out an empty tomb to the women is the loudest testimony to the truth of resurrection and the seal of our redemption. As the women were shown the evidence of resurrection and charged not to fear, so does God again remind us in this generation not to fear what is here now or ahead. Our hope and faith are built on eternal truths, not the uncertainties around us. We have confidence in the Word of God that assures us that the risen Lord is Lord over all situations and circumstances. May the joy of Easter be our daily experience, and may the reason for this season reveal Himself to us and deliver us from all fear. His time of favour is here.
