Believe!

‭Mark 9:23 AMPC‬

[23] And Jesus said, [You say to Me], If You can do anything? [Why,] all things can be (are possible) to him who believes!

Jesus had just undergone the transfiguration experience. The glory of God had been revealed, and two of the mighty men of the old testament, representing the Law and the Prophets, had shown up, bearing witness to the Glory and Authority of Jesus the Son of God. The three inner-core disciples had seen this, and I am sure their confidence in the person and authority of Jesus had become strengthened. However, as nice as the mountain top experience was, there was a dose of reality waiting for them at the foot of the mountain. There was a young boy whose father had brought his son to the other disciples, but there was no power available to cast out demons. 

These men had spent time with Jesus, and had even been sent out to heal the sick and to proclaim the kingdom of God. Was it that the disciples had forgotten about the power that they had been given? Or was it that they stopped believing they had power because they were no longer on the physical assignment? Whatever it was, the disciples could not cast out the demon, and the father was desperate for help. His words showed his helplessness and desperation. Whatever it is that is a challenge today, ask God to help you. Things may be in the realm of despair, but there is a God who is able to change the story to a good end. What is required is simple faith.

That is the message of the verse above. The father was not sure if he would get any help. If Jesus could heal his son, he would be glad. Jesus laid out a principle of faith in his reply, and it is that faith is critical to receiving anything of value from God. God always wants to show Himself strong and mighty in the lives of people, but He can only move in line with the measure of faith the person has. There are times when His mercy may intervene, but faith is the currency that heaven always responds to. As the bible makes clear, without faith, it is impossible to please God. By faith, man has access to all the resources of heaven, no matter what the weight, height or depth of the problem is. Have faith in God. He will show up when you need Him.
