Ephesians 6:12 AMP
[12] For our struggle is not against flesh and blood [contending only with physical opponents], but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this [present] darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly (supernatural) places.
It was laid out quite clearly in yesterday's devotion that we have been called into a fight or a battle. God in his mercy has also made adequate provision of all that is required for that battle. The critical application of wisdom, knowledge and knowledge about God is, among many other things, to know who this God is, what His call upon my life is, what He demands of and from me, where He wants me to thrive, what has been programmed by Him as part of His plan for me, and the nature of the enemy that I have been called to fight. It will be unfortunate not to know what the face of the enemy looks like; otherwise, I would be fighting aimlessly, with no direction or impact. This is what today's verse lays out so clearly.
In fighting, knowing the enemy and his end game is important, but it will be impossible to achieve without the help of the One called the Man of War. Our struggle is not against flesh and blood, because flesh and blood cannot fight this battle. It is pointless directing my strength and focus on flesh and blood, as these are helpless against the devil and his schemes. The verse lays it all out, and as you would read quite clearly, these are spiritual authorities in different places and on different levels. I note also that one of the powers of these forces is their ability to operate in darkness, away from the light of God that is able to make them known.
No one can remain in darkness, and expect to live in victory over darkness. How can you fght against that which is your nature, unless you first step out of it? It is nice to picture a world that has been created by God, but the same God also lays out quite clearly that there are spiritual forces at work, and only in conjunction with Him can anyone have victory. I cannot remain in sin, and expect that the grace of God which gives victory, will continue to abound. God's provisions for war, laid out in the devotion of yesterday, are the materials required to successfully confront and defeat the devil at all levels. Fighting against a man like myself is the scheme of the devil. Know the enemy, so you can fight the right way. God's time of favour is here.
