Exodus 31:2-3 NIV:
“See, I have chosen Bezalel son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, and I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with wisdom, with understanding, with knowledge and with all kinds of skills.....
There is something peculiar about the inventor or producer of a product or service: there is a particular idea, thought or issue that birthed the idea and the product or service was made to realise that idea, thought or issue. If the product had an issue and needed re-tweaking or repair, it was taken back to the manufacturer or producer to repair or replace. Someone else could make a better product but whatever was made was the sole exclusive preserve of the maker. Same with God and his creation.
God made the entire universe, complex and unique as it is. He made man and equipped man with all that he needed to fullfil God's purpose. Today's passage highlights some truths, the first of which is: God is a God of supreme knowledge. He knows us by name and life, and no detail about us escapes his attention. Secondly, all our gifts, talents, endowments and enablements are sourced and founded in and on Him. Outside of God, we are empty shells, not capable of anything good or useful. It is the breath of God in us that makes the distinction.
Why then do we boast like we could do anything on our own? Why do we act like we are the owners of our lives and destinies or that we can determine our own fate by our own hands?
Check the verses above again: no where is self or I mentioned. God does the personal calling by name, and he can single a man out from the midst of the thickest crowd. He also does the equipping and the enablement, so that no man can boast of anything outside of God.
If God can call out the stars of heaven by name, how much more would he know you and care about you, created in his own image and loved by Him?.
Rejoice, for his time of favour is here
