Psalm 121:3-4 NIV:
He will not let your foot slip— he who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.
If there's anything science has not been able to beat, explain, rationalise or reduce to explainable terms, it is the need for rest and sleep. Man has discovered coffee, chewing gum and other narcotics that keep you awake longer than usual, depriving you of sleep. However, as we all know, sleep must always be satisfied as the body will never fully recover without it. As soon as sleep comes, nothing else matters. We are 'dead' to the world until we awake again.
Now picture the Almighty God himself, who says he neither slumbers nor sleep. He's not man who is tired and needs to sleep regularly but he's God Almighty, the same yesterday, today and forever. He's always relevant to every situation and circumstance and nothing catches him by suprise. Thieves succeed because they come mostly at night, when we are most vulnerable- tired, sleepy and weary. God is only touched with the feeling of our infirmity, he is not dictated to by them. They hold no power over him. He's therefore capable, qualified and competent enough to handle whatever life may throw at us. We are powerless, he's all-powerful. We are limited; he's the limitless God. We get tired easily and give up, he never gives up on us. We sleep when we have to, God cannot sleep because hiss nature abhors it. He already said in His Word that he's an ever-present help in trouble. This shows that anyday, anytime, any circumstance or any situation that calls for God's attention will meet him awake, alert and active to defend the cause of his children and those who have found refuge in Him.
Rejoice, for his time of favour is here
