Eternal Supply!

Eternal Supply!

Jesus replied to them, “I am the Bread of Life. The one who comes to Me will never be hungry, and the one who believes in Me [as Savior] will never be thirsty [for that one will be sustained spiritually]. JOHN 6:35 AMP

Food is such an essential part of our human existence. We need it for daily living just as much as we need clothes to cover our nakedness and a roof over our heads to protect us from the elements. Jesus had just fed 5,000 men, beside women and children, with just 5 loaves and 2 fishes, and 12 basketa of left over food was saved. The people wanted to make Jesus king; at least, they were assured of daily food. Life has got to be more than what I put in my mouth.

Jesus took time to explain to the crowd that just as human life needs physical food, so also does the spiritual man need more than just physical food. My greatest need isn't actually physical food; but a personal experience of the Bread of Heaven. God has already assured me that He will provide all I need for daily survival, so I can concentrate on the greatest need of my life: knowing God. I have a part to play: I must come to Him of my own accord, not out of a sense of compulsion, but from a heart that knows its shortcomings and that only in and by God will its need be met.

God satisfies. No man encounters God and remains the same. It is not about hearing and reading about Him alone; it is about accepting Jesus as Lord and Saviour and allowing His Spirit work in me. God is the One who satisfies the greatest and deepest need of man, and if I choose Him, I choose life. If I reject Him, I tell Him I do not consider Him important enough for life's journey. He won't force Himself on me, but one day soon, either by free choice or compulsion, every knee will bow to the Lordship of Jesus. His time of favour is here.
