Sing!

O sing unto the Lord a new song; for he hath done marvellous things: his right hand, and his holy arm, hath gotten him the victory. The Lord hath made known his salvation: his righteousness hath he openly shewed in the sight of the heathen. Psalms 98:1‭-‬2 KJV

This is one of the psalms that is not attributed to anyone, as the author is said to be unknown. Whatever the case, the start of this psalm is instructive: it is time to sing a new song to the Lord. It may not mean a song different in words from what you have always sung, but maybe it is time to do it with a change of heart: one that is confident and composed in its knowledge of who God is and what he can do and has done.

And the basis for the new song is also listed out in today's extract: 1. He has done marvellous things; 2. His right hand and holy arm has gotten him victory; 3. He has made known His salvation; 4. He has openly shown his righteousness in the sight of the heathen. For each one mentioned above, there are both internal and external pieces of evidence in support. Cast your mind back over just one year ago, and ask yourself if indeed you could have survived on your own. Yes, there may have been personal tragedies, but you are alive, not because you were any better than the dead, but because of the marvellous things God has done.

And there have been battles He fought for you whilst you slept. He didn't need you to be aware, because there was nothing you could have done by yourself to change the outcome of the battle. His arm alone gives him victory and his arm alone is sufficient for all you need. And as He does all of these things, He is making known His salvation. He is proving to you that only in and through Him are you truly safe. He is telling you that no man trusts fully in Him and is disappointed. His credentials are from eternity, and He has been in the business of salvation long before any of us were born.

And lastly, his actions are a testament to the heathen that He is God. What other testimony will speak of who God is than what He does for those who trust Him? When I stand before men and speak of the mighty things I have enjoyed, I lay down the standard and make it known. The choice of reaction is left to every man. You can take or leave Him; your decision has an impact on your eternal reality. For all who know God, break out in a new song today. Let the world know that you know God, and let your life be a daily testimony to the grace and power of this God. His time of favour is here.
