For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:

Paul, writing to the church at Colosse, could testify about so many gifts that this church had. They had come to the knowledge of God and they loved God and his people, and they had room for growth. The whole of chapter 1 here is a prayer for this church, as it is a desire for all of us too. The God who calls us to Himself wants to reveal Himself to us. He wants us to have a personal experience of His power and grace. The only way to have this is to totally surrender our lives to Him, and allow Him have his way in and through us.
If I understand today's extract, I will not struggle with giving up control. After all, the life I lay claim to isn't mine in the first place; it belongs to the One called Life Himself. Today's extract makes it clear: ALL things were created by God and for Him. All things find expression and fulfillment in connection with Him. Outside of Him, nothing works. Outside of Him, nothing can exist. In fact, there is nothing to be imagined outside of Him, as he fills all things.
If this is the God who seeks a relationship with me, I must tread carefully. God is not given to frivolity, and he does not take commitment lightly. He owns and holds all things, seen and unseen, including the sincerity or hypocrisy of your heart. If you will be all that God intends, you cannot do it outside of God. If life finds true expression in Him, then I must go to him for all of my life's needs. Otherwise, I will struggle and fight on my own for everything, and there is no certainty that I will win.
