Staying Power!

Staying Power!

My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.
Psalms 73:26 KJV

There is an undeniable reality of life, and it has to do with the process of time and its effect on our lives. We are born, we grow up, we engage in activities, and then, when the time comes, we die. God's divine plan for human life goes in that direction. It does not matter how much I build up muscles, eat good healthy food or exercise; these may help make my life physically healthy, but they may not have an eternal impact on my life. How then do I find the right balance?

I must accept the fact that life will happen to me. The physical strength I had at 25 is not the same as I would have at 75. My cells are renewed as I grow, but then comes a time when the process is slower and more painful. That is the physical reality. However, there is another reality that is important, and it has to do with God. This other reality is very important, because it determines your eternal reality. When all else fails, as they must do at some point, God is the only One who remains true. When all the good plans you have laid out go to waste, God is the only One who puts things in the proper perspective and gives you hope that tomorrow will be definitely better.

The writer here understood this, noting that God is the strength of his heart. What keeps me going actually isn't the heart's muscles, but God's power. It's not really the alarm clock that wakes me up but God's grace. He is my portion because I have attached my life to him and take all my nourishment, guidance and help from Him. And it is not for a season or for a short time; I'm in it for the whole of my life. Life is too short and unpredictable to leave it to chance. I have to involve God in it all, if I will live well and end well. So, who's holding you up? Who's your focus and your portion? Eternity awaits your decision. His time of favour is here.
