Afraid?

Afraid?

For I the Lord thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee.
Isaiah 41:13 KJV

Let it be known from the outset that fear and God's Presence cannot mutually coexist in the same heart. One would always displace the other. In several places in the Bible, God charges His children not to be afraid. He recognizes the power and influence of fear; if He did not, there won't be several references to 'Do not fear' in the Bible. But He makes it clear that the antidote to fear isn't bank account balances, political connections or circle of influence, but the Presence of the One who has conquered fear. So, what holds your heart? You can focus on the Pressure or you can focus on the Presence; the choice is yours but as you know, choices have consequences. I cannot claim the Presents and conveniently ignore the Power who gives them.

It is in that context that today's extract is set. The Lord speaks here, setting my heart at rest that He knows me and wants to help me. He wants to do a work in and through me that no other person or authority can do. That is what is covered here: First, clarity on the source of the help. It can be no other person except God Himself. And he holds my right hand, as a sign of total knowledge about who I am, what my strengths and weaknesses are, and where I need Him. And then He speaks and addresses all the fears and uncertainties I may have, offering me help and support like no one else can.

These are only available to those who have surrendered to God, and have accepted Him as Lord and Saviour. How do I demand help and support from someone I do not recognise as being able to help me? If I keep rejecting Him, can I then turn around and blame Him for the consequences of my actions? Fear is real; events around the world have given room for it to grow and fester. But then also is God real, and for all who will seek Him out, His help, support and Presence are all available. Take advantage of the offer; it is free now. A time is coming when grace is no longer available, and judgment will be based on what I did with this free gift. His time of favour is here.
