Burdened?

Burdened?

Cast thy burden upon the Lord , and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved. Psalms 55:22 KJV

A little context: today's extract is part of a chapter that speaks to the wickedness of man and the need to make a choice as to who to follow. David spoke about the wickedness of man, the inconsistencies of the fallen man, and the refusal of man to see the folly of wickedness and to repent. When you consider the effect and impact of wicked acts around us, does it not seem that evil is 'profitable'?

And from the verses before today's extract, that much is obvious. David had friends who had made covenants and broken them without much thought. He had met people whose tongues promoted sorrow and mischief. Yet, in all of these, his choice was clear: I will call upon God. That was his default setting, and his life, as we read it, is a testament to the power of a life totally given to God.

No matter the pressure, cast all your cares and burden upon God. It is my duty to cast; if I do not give it up, God wouldn't go against the exercise of my free will. I must cast it on God, not any person, no matter how strong or connected s/he is. A man can only lift you up as high as his hands can reach; God's everlasting arms is a better place to be.

I note that the extract doesn't say that your life suddenly becomes easier and carefree; the big difference now is that you got God on your side and He alone has the power to sustain whatever He has ordained. His promise is that the righteous will not be moved. No matter the shaking, the upheavals and the storms that may arise, the righteous will not be moved.

I note that all these parts are linked and related. You cannot lay claim to the promise of stability and sustenance by God while holding on to your cares and concerns. You must let go of that which will not let you take hold of God alone. As long as you have 'viable' options, God cannot trust your standing. If He can't vouch for you, how does He trust that you will choose Him? So, where are your cares? In your custody, or already in the hands of the only One who can take care of them? His time of favour is here.
