Why; Why Not!

Why; Why Not!

Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God. Psalms 42 : 11 NIV

Checking out the verses before the one above, it is clear that the writer was at some crossroads. He had always sought out God and sought to serve Him; He had always been glad to go to God's House to listen to Him speak and to fellowship with other people. He was faithful and consistent in his service, yet it felt like something was still missing.

Being in God's presence does not protect you from trouble. There are seasons in life where it will appear that God is silent or far away. There are times when you may question the basis of your trust and confidence in One you have not physically seen. In those times, take a look back, like this writer, at the things that God had done in the past, and let your faith in God be strengthened. As I take stock of my life, I realise just how much God has done in and for me, and that encourages me to hold on, persever and press on.

Like the writer here, I speak to my soul: you have the Almighty God on your side. You need not worry about the distractions of the devil. Things may not look great right now, but they are not surprises to the One who is in control. Like the writer, I undertake to put my whole hope in God, nothing less than all will do. I cannot hold on to God with both hands and still have room for alternatives. No matter the difficulties, tribulations and trials that are going on, I rest on the confidence that the One who holds times and seasons will turn things around in His own way, and will make all things end in praise for me. What could be more? His time of favour is here.
