Power of Words

James 3:8-10 NIV
but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.  With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness. Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be.

Indeed, science has become so advanced that it has practical answers to most of life's questions. At a time, people claimed it was impossible to fly in the air with the aid of machines. Now we have airplanes that go from Nigeria to the UK in six hours and missiles that cover the same distance in less than a tenth of that time. Discoveries have been made, boundaries have been broken, limits have been ignored and life seems to have been simplified. Why then do we still have upheavals and restlessness all around us? In spite of advances in modern science, why does it appear that we have not really moved?
There's a side to that question that the verses above can answer. There's a part of our creation that holds the key to our breakthroughs, successes or destruction. It is the tongue. With all the advances of modern science, there's still no one who can tame the tongue. Wars have been fought and lives have been lost due to the use of the tongue. Was it not the murmurings of Israel that cost Moses the promised land? Was it not a simple request from the thief on the cross that made him pass from death to life? It all starts with the use of the tongue. It is what you say that determines what you get. If there's confusion in your speech, when nobody csn predict the fruit of your lips, when you can produce blessings and curses from the same mouth at the same time, then there's a doubt as to the sincerity of the faith you profess.
God created all our parts to give him glory and nothing else matters in our quest to glorify him in return. We must find and maintain the proper use of the tongue if our lives are to make impact.
When the use of a thing is not defined, abuse is inevitable. Let God take the glory through you and the fruit of your life.
His time of favour is here; his favour doesn't work where there's no flavour. Let flavour proceed from your lips and watch God move you from labour and stress into rest.
