Jeremiah 1:11-12 NIV
The word of the Lord came to me: “What do you see, Jeremiah?” “I see the branch of an almond tree,” I replied. The Lord said to me, “You have seen correctly, for I am watching to see that my word is fulfilled.”
There's a lot going on in the world that calls for caution. People die in fires, accidents and even in their sleep. Wars have been fought and wars are still being planned. Earthquakes, tornadoes, tsunamies and tremors serve as a reminder of our humanity and our mortality. In the midst of all these, God keeps speaking and for as many as are listening, directions are given and lives are being impacted.
What does it take? There's a need for us to see things from God's perspective if our lives are to make sense. God asked Jeremiah a simple question: What do you see? Looks innocent but I believe a point had to be established: what you see determines how far you will walk with and work for God. If you don't have a clear sight of where God is taking you to, how do you determine if you are on the right path or if you are anywhere close to your destination?. If you can't work out the state of your inner eyes, how do you avoid the pit of sin, destruction and deceit?. We must work that out by ourselves; God will not do for us what he has empowered us to do; we are the ones to WORK out our salvation with fear and trembling as God has already done his bit.
Jeremiah was commended for giving correct answers to God's question. God went further to back up Jeremiah's statement by giving him an assurance: if you can really look well and see God at work, then all his blessings as promised are yours. If you can't see God at work, then you can't experience his power, presence and privileges.
God's Word is trustworthy. Get a Word from him today and trust him to watch it till it has been fulfilled.
His time of favour is here.
