But you, dear friends, by building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in God’s love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life. Jude 1:20-21 NIV
There is an unbreakable link between faith and the work of the Holy Spirit in the lives of all who have accepted Jesus as Lord. Power exchanges hands at the genuine conversion of the heart, as there is a change of command and a new owner. It is a life- long journey, and a constant walk of dependence on the Holy Spirit for his help. You don't get to the final destination overnight; you keep walking, working and striving towards the goal.
The Holy Spirit is the one who makes everything tick; the One who ensures that the journey is worth it. How do you pray aright if you don't have God's presence to guide your words and thoughts? How do you pray in line with God's purpose and plan if you have no idea what God desires or expects? The journey ahead is far, has dangers and uncertainties and definitely requires the expertise of a guide who knows the terrain and the destination. That is the work of the Holy Spirit.
He is also the only way I can be sure of my eternal destination. I remain in God's love, as I keep depending on the finished work, nothing else. I can't trust my instincts; they could be wrong. I can't trust my heart; it could lead me astray. But as I depend on the help of the Holy Spirit, I receive daily insight on what God wants per time. I am never out of tune, no matter what the world says or thinks.
Eternal life is the end of all labour, so I must labour the right way and in the right direction. His time of favour is here.
