Your word I have treasured and stored in my heart, That I may not sin against You.
PSALM 119:11 AMP
Wherever your treasures are stored, that is where your heart will be focused on. When your attention is caught up with the basic, ephemeral things of this present world, then those things will determine your pursuits, priorities and the determinant of your eternity.
To get things in the proper perspective, a few things must be settled: the right material or content, the right storage place and the right motive for the pursuit. Let's look at these things. First, the Psalmist focused on the Word of God as the right material/content. Yes, life requires the application of so many things, but you can never define true success outside God's view. The world could celebrate you, but you will be headed for eternal doom if God does not approve of your pursuits. God's Word has been in existence long before the world as we know it now was created, he holds it all in place, and he will continue to reign long after this present world ceases to exist.
Second, the Psalmist got the storage place right. You can commit verses to memory and be able to recite all by rote, but it will do you no good if you cannot apply them at the heart level when trials and tribulations come. Jesus had the Word at the heart-level, and was able to defeat the devil. We cannot afford not to do the same.
Third, the motive for the pursuit must be right. If you will live right, please God and be used of him, you just must avoid sin. God and sin cannot coexist in the same heart. When you consider your eternal destination, you will do well to remember that God considered sin as a major issue when he sent his only son to die in our place. He didn't treat sin lightly; we had better not do same.
Focus on the Word; read, meditate on it, commit it to heart, and apply it to your daily walk. His time of favour is here.
