For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men: As free, and not using your liberty for a cloak of maliciousness, but as the servants of God. 1 Peter 2:15-16 KJV
Have you known the will of God for your life? Are you patterning your life after someone else, trying to be like another person? In the context of today's extract, one of the things God desires for us is to do what is right. His word clearly states what is right for us, and as we read a d obey, we bring glory to God and silence the evil talk of ignorant men. When a man does not know what is expected, anything goes. When there is no guide, anything is permissible.
You must have a reason/basis for everything you hold dear. You must know who you belong to, which determines who you are and what you do. If I know I am free, I do not need to be afraid of doing good. If I know I am free, I do not enslave myself to the dictates or desires of men. If I know I am free, I do not live as one bound to the principles of the world anymore. It boils down to my understanding of my identity and place in God.
Natural man will never understand or tolerate the spiritual man. Both answer to different masters and dance to different tunes. The natural man needs man's approval; the spiritual man only needs God's approval. The natural man is ignorant of God's desire and will; the spiritual man lives for God's clear purpose and direction. The natural man submits to no one but the flesh; the spiritual man submits to God and is therefore a victor over everything that belongs to the flesh. Where do you fit in? What are your priorities? His time of favour is here.
