Standing with God!
But let all those who take refuge and put their trust in You rejoice; let them ever sing and shout for joy, because You make a covering over them and defend them; let those also who love Your name be joyful in You and be in high spirits. For You, Lord, will bless the [uncompromisingly] righteous [him who is upright and in right standing with You]; as with a shield You will surround him with goodwill (pleasure and favor). Psalm 5:11-12 AMP
Where do you stand? Who holds your confidence? That answer will determine what you stand to gain or lose. If your trust is in God alone, you are assured of his protection and defence. He does not guarantee me an existence free from trials; he only promises that he will be there for me as a shield and defence. That is good enough for me.
It then means that there are other options. People have developed man-made devices to guarantee security and protection. Unfortunately, if God has not ordained it, he will not sustain it. If its foundation is not in God, it is not built to last. Joy is not a function of external comfort but of internal bliss.
You may be in prison like Paul, and yet ask the Philippian church to rejoice always. It all depends on who you know. The words 'You' and 'Your' referring to God appear 7 times in those two verses. God is the key factor here and he holds the key to all you can ever be. Where do you stand?
Did you read the bit about the 'uncompromisingly righteous'. We can claim all of God's blessings as much as we want, but there is a condition that must be met if we are to qualify for the blessing. I have got to be on God's side, doing what He commands. I have to have him living inside of me and directing my affairs. Who's in charge? His time of favour is here.
