The Greatest Gift 4!
For God did not send the Son into the world to judge and condemn the world [that is, to initiate the final judgment of the world], but that the world might be saved through Him.
JOHN 3:17 AMP
There is a purpose to everything God does. He is too eternal minded to be careless or carefree, and He is too driven to succeed to engage in doomed or unsuccessful projects. Anything he does is tied to a purpose, even when it looks 'bad' in our own eyes. At the time, the death of his Son was horrible, because he died in the most horrible way, like a criminal and in between two convicted criminals too. But you see, even on the cross, the critical question of choice played in, and one of the convicts became really convicted in his heart and just before he died, he got an assurance of eternity. God has got too much at stake to do anything without a divine purpose.
And his timing is always on point. His Son was given at the right time, and He calls you and I to respond to His Son while we still have time. And what was the purpose again for his Son coming down: to work within time to secure eternal salvation for all who will accept Him as Lord and Saviour. Time is of essence in this journey of purpose, as God has not promised any of us anything permanent outside his Son. The Son came to remind us of our helplessness and to provide us a way back to God. He didn't just show us where we went wrong; He showed us how to walk right to end right.
And the decision is mine and mine alone. Nobody can respond on my behalf, and nobody can make it to heaven on my behalf. It is a personal decision, taken out of a conscious appreciation of my present realities and my eternal destination. His first coming isn't to condemn or judge the world but to show the world why it needs Him. But a day is coming when time will be suspended and judgment will apply. And God has graciously made clear the terms of judgement, and I will be wise to take advantage of the offer before me.
There are consequences for every action. Nothing is ever done in vain. If I reject the free gift, I cannot turn around and blame God for my end. If I accept his gift, I enjoy the benefits tied to the gift. What would it be for me when an account is demanded from me? Have you considered your own lot? His time of favour is here.
