The Watch

The Watch!

For the ways of man are directly before the eyes of the Lord, And He carefully watches all of his paths [all of his comings and goings]. PROVERBS 5:21 AMP

Yet again today, a statement of fact and truth is laid before us. It is a statement that goes to the very essence of who God is, what he can do and what I stand to gain if I cooperate with and allow him work. This statement simply says that all of man's ways are laid bare before the eyes of the Lord. First, it means that with God, you really do not have a secret life. There is nothing you can do to keep God out of your life; the fact that He does not interfere with my free wil does not mean He does not have the power to.

Furthermore, the eyes of the Lord do see beyond what my human mind can fathom or understand. I look with my eyes, and sometimes I am blessed enough to see things with my mind, but God goes beyond all that: his eyes cover the whole universe: the part already discovered, the part yet to be discovered, and the part that will never be discovered. It is as if all of our lives are laid before the Lord, whether we want to or not. He sees and knows all, and He will judge accordingly.

I read also that God watches all of man's paths. You could flip that statement in two ways: I could read it to mean that God is aware of the things I do as well as the reason why I do them, or it could also mean that God watches over my ways to be sure they are in line with His purpose and will. Whatever position you take, this is key: total surrender to God is the only guarantee for a happy ending. The world has its delights, and self-help and self-sufficiency is the way of the world. God calls me to a relationship of dependence and trust in Him, where I give Him control and he blessed all I am and do. Which position am I truly taking? His time of favour is here.
