Fighting Well!

Fighting Well!

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Ephesians 6:12 KJV

First, we are called to fight, to wrestle. I do not know what message we heard when we came to Christ, but one thing is clear: a decision to follow Him means exposure to the devil and his cohorts. God never promised us an easy ride; the things he has secured for us through his death and life are things we must be ready to fight for.

Secondly, a mortal man like myself cannot be the enemy. Man can be a vessel in the hands of the devil, but at all times, I must be aware of who I am fighting, and what I am fighting for. If I do not know, I end up beating the air or fighting aimlessly. There is too much at stake not to know what I am called into, or the consequences of the choices I have made.

Thirdly, the enemy is known, and has been declared by God Himself. God leaves us in no doubt who we have been called into warfare with. Even the battleground is also made plain, as well as what to expect. There are categories and levels of wickedness, and some are not within the scope of human strength or wisdom. But there is a God who reigns and rules in the affairs of men. There is a God who is over all, above all and stronger than all. He's on the side of all who have identified with Him and He will defend them with his life, which cannot be taken.

There is an asurance connected with today's extract, and it is that I am assured of victory, as long as I remain connected and dependent. When I lose my sense of dependence and think i can make it on my own, then I expose myself to defeat. I can never take my eyes off God, and I cannot afford to do anything on my own. God is the Man of War, who's never lost a battle. Who am I depending on: strength or God? Ability or grace? Intellect or Wisdom? His time of favour is here.
