Mercy!

Mercy!

It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. Lamentations 3:22‭-‬23 KJV

If I will appreciate the effect and impact of mercy, I have to first understand the impact of sin. God's original plan was a lifetime of experiencing God on a personal level, and God would come down in the cool of the day to talk to the first man. But when man sinned, that intimate fellowship was broken. However, nothing could change God's mind about his purpose for man, which is an intimate relationship. So, in his absolute wisdom, He provided a way of mercy, whereby man could still approach Him and relate with Him. Blood sacrifices were not perfect, but they provided a means of restitution and redemption under the old testament.

With sin comes the natural consequence of judgment. Eternal death is the end of sin, and all who die in it end up in death. Today's extract, though located in the Old testament, speaks to God's nature here and now. It was mercy that made a way under the old, and still continues to speak under the new testament. It does not matter the dispensation you believe in; both speak to the grace, mercy and compassion found only in God, and His desire that we all come to Him to partake of that mercy. It is full, free and available to all men alive, and no demand on earth can exhaust God's inexhaustible resources.

It doesn't matter where you have been or how deep you have gone; mercy speaks. It does not matter what the past looks like; God's grace is sufficient for the here and now, and He is able to guarantee a fresh start. That's why today's extract talks about God's never failing mercy and compassion. Men of old spoke of it, and men today owe their lives to it. It is a daily dispensation, a regular supply. When I wake up on a new day, I have a fresh supply of grace and mercy to call on for that day.

Whatever it is, God listens. Go to Him for whatever you need. He is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that I can ever ask or imagine. That is His promise and He is faithful to His Word. His time of favour is here.
