Shine!
Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. Matthew 5:14-16 KJV
Whatever I will be is a function of my understanding of who I am. If I do not know who I follow or who I am, it is difficult to talk about impact, which is the summary of today's extract. This is a statement of fact: all who claim to follow Christ must know that they are light of the world. Why would light be used in this manner? Could it be it is because no matter how dark it is, the smallest sliver of light makes a big difference? Could it be that this is the loudest voice speaking on my earthly purpose?
Light cannot be ignored. Light cannot be put in a box. The nature of light is to change the narrative around it; to give of itself to all around it. You don't light a candle and then seek to hide its effect; you put it where it can serve its purpose. If I know I am light, then I should know that I am planted where I am to make a difference. It may look like its a boring life, but it is important to settle the issue of identity, so I do not fight aimlessly or run without an end in view.
And the world is the stage of manifestation. Men must know and see the difference, if they will listen to whatever it is I have to say. And it is even more important when I consider that the One who calls and equips is the One whose name and interests are at stake. He is to be glorifed in and through me, because it is by His name that I live and work. If I am not living right and pointing men back to God, would that not be a waste of the blessings and resources God has placed in me?
Is my life at present gorifying God and pointing others to Him? No matter what I say now, I remember that one day, I will give account of how I lived, and used up God's resources of grace available to me. His time of favour is here.
