Wait!
I wait [patiently] for the Lord, my soul [expectantly] waits, And in His word do I hope. PSALM 130:5 AMP
In a world where success is attributed to speed and haste, today's extract seems to go against regular behaviour. The world focuses on the one who comes first, then to a lesser degree on other positions. The world rewards men on the basis of how high, quick, farther, deeper they can go; how they do it or get there becomes less important than the applause and the celebration. Unfortunately, with God, so many things the world considers important are viewed as inconsequential by God's standards. Haste is not the same as impact.
With God, it is never about who comes first, but about how you run and why you run. With God, there is no first or second place; just finishing the race well guarantees you eternal reward. Without taking away the benefits and blessings a life of commitment and faithfulness can give you down here, I must always remember that all of the world's treasures are only good for down here; there is no single physical treasure, gift or possession down here that will do me much good when the eternal is being discussed.
So, while I live, work and labour down here, I do it with a consciousness that I am at work for God. I keep at the back of my mind that I am not chasing shadows or the fleeting joy that comes from earthly acclaim. Waiting does not mean idleness; it means God is the focus and his timing, visitation and manifestation are all more important to me than anything the world could ever promise me. And I am not just waiting pointlessly; I know who I am waiting for: the God who reigns and rules over the affairs of men, and who can change lives in an instant.
Waiting on God has eternal blessings. His Word is the treasure house of all his assurances. With His Word, I can look forward to a life of meaning and hope. Because he is a rewarder of all who wait for Him, I undertake to wait. Hurry does me no good, if I do not know where I am going or what lies ahead. His time of favour is here.
