Choosing Wisely!

Choosing Wisely!

Thus says the Lord, “Cursed is the man who trusts in and relies on mankind, Making [weak, faulty human] flesh his strength, And whose mind and heart turn away from the Lord. “Blessed [with spiritual security] is the man who believes and trusts in and relies on the Lord, and whose hope and confident expectation is the Lord. JEREMIAH 17:5‭, ‬7 AMP

2 verses, 2 different earthly realities and eternal consequences. Both are statements made by God, and just as they were true centuries ago when they were first pronounced, so do they remain true till now.  Right from the Garden of Eden, we have seen the effect of trusting human intellect, wisdom and strength. The effects of that error in judgment and decision stay with us till this day.

When man is your first point of call when trouble comes; when your bank account is your point of assurance when difficulties arise; when your human connections give you peace of mind; when your acquisitions and wealth are the only things that set your heart at rest, you need to know that this is the summary of the first part of today's extract. There is no crime in being wealthy; in fact, God's desire for his children is success by His own standards. Nothing else should take His place in my heart, and nothing else should be so important that it will push God to second place in my heart. As long as God is not the first and only option, then your trust is in man.

Check the flip side: the one who believes, trusts and relies on God. These are pretty strong words. It shows total surrender and rest. You cannot believe God and also have much faith in man. You cannot hold on to both ends of the stick at the same time. You are either all for God, or you are holding on to man's assurances. The one on man's side has a curse, and such a person is cut off from divine supply, protection and favour. After all, if you don't believe in God, how do you lay claim to his blessings?

God rewards faithful devotion. There is no man, born of woman, who trusted God with his life and ended up in shame. Things may not have gone as planned, but God is too faithful to fail, and his promises are backed up by the power in His Name and Word. That's the greatest blessing I could ever have. What of you? His time of favour is here.
