Gathered Right!
“Again I say to you, that if two believers on earth agree [that is, are of one mind, in harmony] about anything that they ask [within the will of God], it will be done for them by My Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered in My name [meeting together as My followers], I am there among them.” MATTHEW 18:19-20 AMP
The importance of prayer out of a heart of relationship with God cannot be over emphasized. Men pray, and all sorts of prayers are offered to God from all ends of the earth, but God gives a framework and a model for the kind of prayers He answers and how we can approach Him and get what we desire. First, it is an outflow of relationship, with the focus being on 'believers'. It is important then that I ask myself: have I surrendered control to God or am I still in charge of my destiny? The answer to this is the fulcrum on which every other thing in this passage revolves.
Secondly, I must also pursue unity in purpose, if my prayers are to be answered. It does not mean that I lose my identity or become a robot, but I find common ground with others who share common faith in Christ, who are headed in the same direction and who seek God's perfect will here on earth. When these are present, answers are guaranteed. The focus here isn't getting what I want, but what God wants.
Thirdly, this is made even stronger by the grace of fellowship, where we all come together as one to seek God and to advance his will. If God could admit the power of oneness in the story of the tower of Babel, the same principle would apply when we all have the same goals and pursue the same purpose under God's will. Nothing will be impossible for us. It is important to gather under the right condition- which is in His Name, otherwise, we will pursue personal agendas and achieve nothing.
The assurance is that when I seek God's will, his Presence is guaranteed. When I pursue His purpose, his blessings become my daily experience. When the focus is on me, nothing works. When the focus is on God, things fall in place. His time of favour is here.
