Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above; it comes down from the Father of lights [the Creator and Sustainer of the heavens], in whom there is no variation [no rising or setting] or shadow cast by His turning [for He is perfect and never changes]. JAMES 1:17 AMP
It is often difficult to understand the import of today's extract in the light of the realities that surround us daily. There is growing evil all around us, and we keep thinking up novel ways to do even more evil. We have taken God's perfect creation and turned it to our own selfish ends. However, nothing I do or don't do can change the original template, which is this: God is good, and all He has done is all good. If I would want good, then I must seek God's perfect will for my life. Only then will I see all my experiences from His perspective.
All good things given and all perfect gifts come from God. He is the Source and the Essence of all I need. When like King Nebuchadnezzar, I am tempted to think that it is my intellect and connections that have given me all I have, I need to be reminded of today's extract. When like Lucifer, I think i have arrived, and that I am the best thing to happen to my generation, I need to be reminded again of today's extract. Please note that the person referred to in today's extract is called 'Father', and this only underlines the importance of relationships.
He wants to have a relationship with me. The God of lights, who dwells in heaven and yet sees all that goes on down here, who created all things, visible and invisible by His Word alone, wants to relate with me. And He's constant, consistent and faithful. He isn't like your regular guy- saying one thing and meaning another; sincere about promises but unable to guarantee performance. You have a Father who does not change because of my own life's choices. He's perfect, above reproach.
Even when I do not understand what's going on around me, I rest assured on the Presence of God inside me. Men of old trusted Him and found Him to be faithful and men are still trusting Him today, and for me, I can say He has been faithful. What's your testimony? His time of favour is here.
