For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, And his ears are open unto their prayers: But the face of the Lord is against them that do evil. 1 Peter 3:12 KJV
The Context:
Peter seems to be drawing a clear and direct connection between the family life and societal impact. If a husband is able to live with his wife in peace, raising Godly offspring and living in peace with others, this is the foundation of a society that works and glorifies God. If a man is at peace at home, he will attract and dispense peace wherever he goes. What kind of person am I? Is my personal life a reflection of a personal encounter with the Prince of peace? It is not about what I claim, but about who I am and do. I serve a God who abhors hypocrisy and eye-service. My one and only acceptable service must be that which He can bless.
The Contention:
I may not be married but in my personal life, are people happy that I am in their lives? I may not be rich, but do the things I own control my life? Am I one to pursue my own agenda, not minding the cost or impact on other people, as long as I get ahead? Don't forget what today's extract says about God: His eyes are over the righteous. You can bet his eyes can also see all the unrighteous too; in fact, we are told that his face is against them. If man fights you, God can hear and consider an appeal, but if it is God who fights you, who can argue your case or defend you? He sees, knows and can do all things; I need him on my side for all that life will throw at me.
The Conclusion:
Now that I know who this God is and what He wants, there is no excuse. If I live right, I get his attention. He will not demand from me that which He has not supplied grace for. If He watches me, who/what can take me out of His hand? If He hears my prayers, what is the purpose behind man's manipulation or deception? If God helps me, vain is the help of man; in fact, until God helps me, vain is still the help of man. This is the time to really consider where I stand with God; the signs of the end of this present age are all upon us. We don't have much time; Jesus returns soon. May He find me ready. God's time of favour is here.
