One Lord!

One Lord!

And the LORD shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one LORD, and his name one. Zechariah 14:9 KJV

The Context:
A few of the minor prophets prophesied about the punishment of Israel and Judah, by referring to the day of the Lord. That day has both an earthly and eternal meaning, and I will do well to pay attention to both meanings. God hates sin, as He has made abundantly clear in the Bible. There is no man that can say that he has walked away from the consequences of unconfessed sin. As long as God remains God, the wages of sin will be death. I do myself eternal good if I take advantage of this day of the Lord, when I still have opportunity, come to Jesus and take of the blood of redemption and atonement, get cleansed, and then I can look forward to the other day of the Lord which has eternal consequences. I cannot have any hope or look forward to the eternal day of the Lord, if I have not yet sorted out the other day. Today is that day of salvation; tomorrow is really not assured. A day is coming when men will have wished they had taken advantage of the day given them to make the right decision.

The Charge:
That eternal day draws near; the key thing about this day is that nobody knows what day it is. There is no science to the exact prediction, though God has given us some pointers as to what will happen as the day draws near. Right now, in our day, there are different pretenders to the throne; men lay claim to all sorts of powers and authority, and by virtue of the world's system, they are able to wield some power and influence. Unfortunately, whatever the world gives or secures for you is only good for a while and does not last forever; that which God does is eternal and lasts forever. There are also different rulers over different territories, and except in the context of war, one person's authority does not extend beyond the physical borders of that domain. There is a Lord whose authority and territory is not defined or limited, because it really has no limits. The earth is such a small place that the bible refers to it as God's footstool. If this is the God who is coming to reign, I had better sit up and take notice.

The Conclusion:
I have been served; now, I know. This is the God who is in control of the earth. On that day, He will reign, and whether by choice or compulsion, EVERY knee will bow before Him and every tongue confess that Jesus is Lord. On that day, we will all realize the power of grace; all sorts of authorities rule the roost now, but on that day, there will be only one Lord, and his name one. We call him by different names, but He is Lord. On that day, all the world will know Him. Today, I get to choose of my own freewill to surrender to Him; a time comes when I can no longer choose, and the consequences of my choice become my eternal reality. That day draws near; it comes with certainty. I can do nothing to stop it, but can only prepare properly for it. His Kingship brooks no opposition; I must sort out and secure my total and absolute allegiance today, before it is too late. There is no room for halfhearted devotion or hypocrisy. God's time of favour is here.
