Certainties

Hebrews 13:8 NIV
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

It is an ever-changing world.  Nothing really lasts; nothing is permanent; nothing is fixed.  We live in an age and generation of ever-shifting values, principles and focus. Man only pursues the things that appear to bring him gain and pleasure, while a lot of damage is done to the earth as we pursue our selfish motives and goals. Man finds it very easy to make and break promises in the same breath, without really considering the weight and effect of these decietful acts. In the face of these daunting challenges, where then is the consolation? What hope do we have that things will ever get better?
There can be no other answer except Jesus. Looking at the verse quoted above gives a picture of constant presence in the midst of shifting shadows, ever-present care in the midst of a care-free and careless world. It goes to show that if what you are looking for is an anchor in the storm, a stronghold in times of trouble, a refuge in times of distress, comfort in times of tribulations, you can only find them in Jesus. It then begs the question: what qualifies Jesus to hold the answers to all these things?
Have you ever considered that there must be something more to life than waking up, working hard and sleeping at the end of the day? Have you ever considered that there must be a power working behind the scenes to ensure that your world is still intact? Do you even pause to think about your source or origin, and if indeed, there's more to you than what you are presently? The answers to these questions are found in Jesus.
He has been there ever before creation was created. He is the Word that was spoken to create the world as we see it. He has been the dominant focus of our present age, with volumes of books and messages written and preached about him. Even today, he fills our lives with his presence so much so that our identity and name as CHRISTians start with his name. He still holds and sustains his creation till today and his promise that he will do so till the end of time is a comfort indeed.
When God calls himself: ' The I Am that I Am' , he was referring to his ever-present status. He is never referred to in the past tense, no matter how grammatically incorrect that could be. He's always constantly there as an  'ever-present' help.
When next you are tempted to think that God has forgotten or forrsaken you, be comforted in the knowledge that the nature of God abhors absence. Even when you don't feel him near you, he's always there. Even the most filthy of sinners receive salvation, because he's also near them to save them.
Receive comfort as you walk this walk of faith, run this race and fight the good fight. He will never leave us alone. His time of favour is here.
