Psalm 127:3-5 NIV
Children are a heritage from the Lord , offspring a reward from him. Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one’s youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. They will not be put to shame when they contend with their opponents in court.
God sure does mighty things through the least expected of people. He's so mighty yet he uses some of the weakest, most inconsequential things to do some of his most mighty works.
Just like our focal passage says: children are a heritage from God. Heritage is defined as ' an inheritance, a birthright, or a tradition, something passed down from generation to generation. It is amazing that even with children, God is always looking ahead to what he can do with what he has created. He starts even before birth to lay down a course and a plan for every gift he gives. He sets children as arrows that he can use to shoot into the future so that his purpose and plan for the future can be fulfilled. No wonder Hannah could not conceive until she keyed into God's plan for the moment and asked for a child she could give back to God. All of God's gifts are exclusively his preserve and all that he gives and does are for particulat reasons.
We must therefore seek out God's plan and purpose for our children, or also seek out God's direction for the future so we can align our desire for children with his will. As we seek out his will, we find out what he wants to achieve and we can 'shoot' ourselves and our children in that direction.
Pity the generation without a plan, purpose and direction. Pity the family that seeks more children simply because there's money to take care of them. Pity the family without even a clear idea of what God can do with a surrendered life.
Let us find out what God's purpose is. As we seek this out, we key into his plan and we bring his kingdom down to earth and his redemption plan closer to the hearts of men. His time of favour is here.
