Being the Change God requires...

2 Chronicles 7:13-14 NIV

“When I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or command locusts to devour the land or send a plague among my people, if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

It is amazing just how much we think that the problem of this country is all about leadership failure. Many of us hold the president of the country and his team of ministers solely responsibe for the rot in this country, yet we forget that there is a fundamental flaw in the cobstitution of every mortal, unregenerated man, that keeps him from admiiting responsibility or accepting blame. We point fingers all over the place, accusing everyone else for our problems, forgetting to soberly examine ourselves to see where we have missed it also.

Today's scripture gives a clear idea of God's position as it relates to his own people. Please note that the focus of these two verses is on 'my people'. God is holding his people responsible for determining the course and destiny of the nation, community and environment where they find themselves. If I cannot be trusted to stand up for God where I am, how can God depend on me by entrusting great things into my hands? If I cannot be trusted and trustworthy, how can God commit heaven's treasures into my hands? If I cannot live above sin, how dare I blame someone else for the woes and troubles I'm experiencing?

God calls out to his peope today. We are the ones that will lead the change and be the change God is looking for. From the verses above, all God requires is for his people to turn from evil and return to him. When they return, and call on him, he promises to heal the land. When the land is sick, check the state of health of the inhabitants also.

You want change? Lead the change, be the change. Let God count on you to turn away from evil so that when you cry out to God on behalf of the land, God will deliver. His time of favour is here.
