Proverbs 27:23-24 NIV
Be sure you know the condition of your flocks, give careful attention to your herds; for riches do not endure forever, and a crown is not secure for all generations.
It is important to take stock now of the things we are engaged in now so we can prioritze. There are so many things competing for space and attention in our lives that we need to pause for a moment and consider what things we need to give up and what we need to hold on to.
Riches indeed do not endure. A lot of the legacies of the rich men who have died now have become extinct. We amass wealth for generations unborn, not sure who will eventually live to spend the wealth. We store up precious, yet perishable treasures, which have no eternal value to us, unless they have been gotten righteously and used for God's glory. We assume that the more we have, the more happy we will be or the better our future will be. Let me just summarize these thoughts with Jesus' words: a man's life does not consist of the things he possesses.
There's more to life than what you hold; it is about who you know, who has what you need. Until you have him who has everything, everything you hold now is fuel for the fire that is coming. Until you get your priorities right, all the pursuits and possessions are all in vain.
Watch out, his time of favour is here.
