The Right Thoughts

PHP 4:8 NIV

Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.

With all the negativity going on around us, it is becoming increasingly important that we guard our actions and reactions. We hear things and see things happen around us, and without really bothering to find out the truth behind these events, we react and respond, causing more harm and damage. Because we are creatures without complete and absolute knowledge, our actions, reactions and words will be based on that limited knowledge.

There's an encouragement today to spend our time thinking up the right thoughts towards people and situations around us. Our thoughts are powerful beyond what we think and our lives are products of what we think. The Bible itself assures us that 'as a man thinketh in his heart, so is he'. It then means that our thoughts are the raw materials that will birth the fulfilment of our purpose. It doesn't matter just how much of might is deposited in a man, if He does not know, or he's afraid to draw on that might, He will end his life as a weakling, afraid of all the things God had destined him to overcome.

Am I thinking the right thoughts? Are my present thoughts good enough materials to help fulfil my purpose? Do I need new thoughts, a new direction, a new perspective? God is the determinant of purpose and it is left to us to find out our purpose from him and pursue it under his direction and leading. May his grace be sufficient as we run this race under his guidance and leading, aligning our thoughts with his plans for us. His time of favour is here.
