Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. James 4:7 KJV
For all who will walk with God, there are set rules of engagement. First, let it be clear that as long as we are in this earthly body, the devil will keep fighting to control and destroy God's work in us. This is the reason why today's extract starts on the right note: submit yourself to God. I do not have the slightest idea of the forces arrayed against me; God does. I do not have any strategies for the kind of battles that are coming; God does. I do not even know how to fight; God does. I will do well to submit to God's authority and power and rely on Him to get me home safely.
Submission to God makes resistance of the devil possible. One before the other. The devil is skilled in warfare, and has been fighting dirty since before man was created. He is crafty, but God is wiser. If I will be able to resist the devil, I cannot do it by my power or wisdom. I have to depend on the One called the Man of War. How can I resist: I simply learn more and more of God, what He desires of me, what he wants me to do and say, and I speak to Him daily, seeking guidance and advice on life.
Oh, trials will come; nowhere does God promise immunity from persecution, but He promises me his presence, protection, provision and peace. When God backs you up, it doesn't matter what the quality and quantity of the opposition against you is. God promises that if I can sort out my submission and I can depend on Him for grace and strength to resist the devil, the devil is bound to flee from me. The devil will keep trying, but as long as I don't shift my focus away from God, I am safe. Where do you stand? His time of favour is here.
