Righteousness (rightness and justice in every area and relation) guards him who is upright in the way, but wickedness plunges into sin and overthrows the sinner. Proverbs 13:6 AMPC
As always, there are two dimensions to all of life. There are only two sides to the coin of life and what you get out of it is dependent on what you put into it. You are either on God's side or against Him; no fence has been built to accommodate indecision. We have already laid down the fact that sin has changed the landscape and brought death to all of man, and the only cure is a return to the God of mercy, who through his blood can give a new, fresh and clean start.
However, one thing is needed from me: total dependence on God. He supplies the grace and strength required, but I must show up for it. Righteousness is not of me, but of God. I cannot push out my credentials and think they are sufficient for purpose. In dealing with God, qualifications and connections are inconsequential. I rely totally on the God who knows me to help me. I cannot lay claim to anything good in myself, because even my highest good could be tainted by selfish interests and self-preservation.
When I depend only on God, He guards my way and guides me into his perfect will. Of course, the opposite too is true. If I depend on what I have accomplished, or I push forward my own agenda, I simply tell God I can take care of myself. Anything that celebrates me at the expense of God is simply wickedness. Anything that tells man that he doesn't need God is wickedness. The consequences of that mentality is death, as established by God.
It is time to take stock yet again. Who is the motivation behind your present pursuits? It is good to always remember that there are eternal consequences to the decision to be made. You don't have all of life to make that decision, and you had better consider what will happen to you when this present earthly phase is over. You do not want to stand before God at the end of your life, and realise you had pursued the wrong options. God keeps calling; His arms are open wide and His righteousness is free for all who will trust Him. What are you waiting for? His time of favour is here.
