Set and Sustained!

Set and Sustained!

I have set the Lord always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. Psalms 16:8 KJV

I have set the Lord always before me:
What is God's position in your life? Is He fixed or variable? Is He the one and only or one of many options? How often do I go to Him for support and guidance? Is He an occasional flame, good only for the winter season and ignored when all is bright and rosy? Is He the only focus or an afterthought? Whatever you set before you becomes your most prized possession or inspiration. No matter the answers you give to the questions above, you must remember that you are dealing with a God of absolute knowledge, before whom nothing is hidden.

He is at my right hand:
NOT that I am the focus of attention, but He is. He is the One sustaining and holding me up, not the other way around. The One who is supporting the other is the One that matters. As yu examine your life, the critical question then is: Who is holding who up? Are you the one giving God the instructions and setting the limits or is it God? Are you fully in charge or is there shared responsibility for decision making? The right hand signifies strength; you can only be as strong as the One who helps and supports you.

I shall not be moved:
We usually start from this portion, and ignore the more important part which speaks about the conditions for being immovable. We love the promises, but conveniently forget the conditions. We want to turn God into a magician, or we want to arm-twist Him to act in a certain way or do for us what we want and when and how we want it. It is when the earlier part is settled and secure that this last part is sure and certain. Oh, be prepared: storms will rise, winds will blow, but if I am fixed and helped by the right person, I will not be moved. The world will even come to an end sometime, but I rest assured that God has got my back.

Decision:
David knew the One who is spoken about here on a very personal basis. What of you? Are you content with what people say about Him or would you come seeking Him for yourself? Would you make God the steering wheel of your life; the one in full control or do you have alternative plans, just in case the main one doesn't work? Questions, with answers that will speak into eternity. His time of favour is here.
