Submit!

Submit!

There are many devices in a man's heart; nevertheless the counsel of the Lord, that shall stand. Proverbs 19:21 KJV

It is in the power of man to plan, scheme and devise ways and means of achieving what he sets out to do. There are short, medium and long term goals. There are also men who plan how to do evil. Since the fall of man in the Garden of Eden, there is no limit to the depth and scope of man's inhumanity to man or the deadly impact of his actions on creation. Yet, for all who have come to know God on a personal level, and walk with Him on a daily basis, today's extract holds deep lessons.

It is okay to plan and devise means to achieve things; it will be against nature for a man made in the image and likeness of God not to be able to plan. However, the balance is this: in all my schemes and devices, have I sought God's face? Have I brought my heart first before God, asking Him to align my life, plan, priorities and pursuits with His purpose for my life? One thing that life has taught me is that no created thing can ever be wiser or smarter than the One who designed and manufactured it. If I admit that God created and formed me, why would I ever think that I could be wiser or smarter than Him or I could have a better plan for myself than He does?

The conclusion is actually sober; it does not matter how well laid your plans are; as long as they don't line up with God's will, they will be fruitless endeavours. It doesn't matter who is promoting or supporting or encouraging you; as long as they are not in line with God's counsel, there will be no gain at the end. I note that it says the Lord's counsel will stand. If God's counsel and opinion and advice cannot be thwarted, delayed or denied, imagine the power that is attached to his command, authority and direction.

God seeks men who will trust Him with their lives. Once my heart is fully committed to God, He can do anything He wants with it. Once I know who I am, whose I am and who I serve, impact is non-negotiable. His time of favour is here.
