Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls: Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation. Habakkuk 3:17-18 KJV
Long before the challenges and trials come, you must make up your mind what your priorities are. Like Daniel, if you taste the king's meat before you make a stand, it may be too late. There are situations in life that will test the quality of your convictions, but if you have settled your foundation and fixed it on God alone, then the storms will not sweep you away.
Life will happen; there is no stopping that. There are things that are beyond your immediate control. You can lay the best plans and sow the best seeds; it doesn't guarantee that you will get a rich harvest. You can go to school and get the best of degrees and qualifications; it doesn't always mean that you will get the best of jobs. Well laid plans can be messed up; the certain source of provision could fail. The man who promised may himself fall on hard times suddenly. The one with a good start is not always destined to come first. With God, there is no room for chest-beating or self-confidence; you just need to be fully dependent on God for all that you seek.
Make the plans, but remember to keep them fluid and dependent on God. Do all you can, but always remember that your best isn't always the reason why you get God's best. Your greatest gift to God is a heart of deep gratitude for all you have received. You may not have everything you think you need, but with God on your side, your present is sorted and your eternity is secure. I rejoice because I know God is on my side. I rejoice because I know he's watching out for my best interests. Life may be hard, but His love and life are stronger and better than anything life may throw at me. What's your own response? His time of favour is here.
