Silent Wisdom!
Even fools are thought wise if they keep silent, and discerning if they hold their tongues. Proverbs 17:28 NIV
Is there true wisdom in silence? The world may not agree, but then, when did the world become the standard for anything God says? The world refers to men as 'smart' and 'savvy' based on the output of their lips and lives. Men are judged and opinions formed by what they say and how they behave, but when you are dealing with God, all the things you think you know would not just be enough.
Recall the warning in James 3 about the use of the tongue, a small part of the body, but one with the capacity to set a whole life on fire. That's how important the tongue is to a person's destiny. How you use it is equally as important as when you use it, and destinies have been shaped or destroyed through the use of the tongue. Even more poignant is the fact that God used words to create everything we see now, and he breathed his nature and power into us. This means that we carry the same creative or destructive power, depending on our understanding of who we are and what we are.
One definition the Bible gives to a fool is one who says in his heart that there is no God. He doesn't need to speak it out; it is just enough to think it in his heart. If such a man who denies God's existence or power can be thought wise simply because of his prudent use of his tongue, then we all must learn the wise and proper use of the tongue. Not every situation demands a response.
As you step out today, remember that it is not always a sign of wisdom if your voice is always heard; it is better to be remembered for making a positive impact with your words, than to be known as someone who just loved to talk. His time of favour is here.
