Cast your burden on the Lord [releasing the weight of it] and He will sustain you; He will never allow the [consistently] righteous to be moved (made to slip, fall, or fail). [I Pet. 5:7.] Psalm 55:22 AMPC
In context, the Psalmist here had experienced treachery, betrayal of trust and vicious attacks. Men who he called 'friends' had turned their backs and forsaken him, whilst others planned evil attacks. It does not matter how many assurances man gives you; you cannot fully trust man. The first command in today's extract is in two folds: we are asked to cast all our burden and to cast it right upon the Lord. You don't cast your burden and still hold on to it; you don't give it to God and still hold tightly to it. You can't do both- cast and hold on. You can't play both sides too.
The promise from God is that he will sustain you. When hearts are heavy and life is burdensome, give all the cares to God. He says he will sustain. It means that I cannot worry about what I have already given up. That has become God's worry and business. His promise also is that the righteous will never be moved. Deep words.
Who is a righteous person? That is a man who has made God his only focus of trust and faith, and does not rely on human knowledge, connection or ability. There is no faith in human attributes of wealth, position, power or possessions. When things don't go according to plan, s/he is not bothered because there is an understanding that God is sovereign. He is the One who holds up so we don't fall; he's the One who sustains so we don't burn out. Even when the Righteous fall, there is an assurance that God will always raise him up, no matter how many times s/he falls.
Are you weary? Are you burdened? Work on your focus- God says cast those burdens on him. He has capacity to absorb them. Leave them there and see God move heaven and earth in order to prove his love and affection for you. His time of favour is here.
