Life Fundamentals

“Therefore I tell you, stop being worried or anxious (perpetually uneasy, distracted) about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, as to what you will wear. Is life not more than food, and the body more than clothing? MATTHEW 6:25 AMP

How do you define 'Life? Is it a summary of possessions, or the depth of cease? There is always a world definition for every term, but there is also a God definition for the same term too, and it is important to know and follow God's definition. Today's extract seeks to define life from God's perspective.

God admonishes us to cease worrying over life. Why? Because none of us can change a single thing about what God has planned. We do not have control over the next minute or second, and we do not hold any power over all of life. It must be really humbling to experience such helplessness, knowing that you can't do a single thing to change what God has planned. Yet, man will try his best, relying on position, influence, wealth and privilege to change things.

Jesus here says: you can't help yourself. You can't change anything on your own, except to make it worse. You can't add a single cubit to your height or a single hour to your life. So, what would your worrying achieve? The question of eternity will never be answered with the abundance of wisdom, intellect, power, position or possessions.

So, look through the whole spectrum of life- eating, drinking, wearing, occupying and all others. God has promised to take care of all these. It is not about ability, capacity or influence; it is about God's name at stake. He has tied his reputation to the veracity of his Word, and he will move heaven and earth to fulfil his word. That is God- faithful as ever.  What of me? Can I trust him enough not to worry? His time of favour is here.
