Others First!

Don't do anything from selfish ambition or from a cheap desire to boast, but be humble towards one another, always considering others better than yourselves. And look out for one another's interests, not just for your own. Philippians 2:3‭-‬4 GNB

Truths:
1. Man is inherently selfish and inward looking. It is not natural to put others ahead of yourself, so no amount of motivational speaking or inspired talk will make the difference; only a life totally given to, and willing to please God, will be able to repress his/her desires in order to promote others.

2. Unfortunately, you cannot read man's motives and intentions. The best of actions can be based on the worst of intentions. 1 Cor. 13 talks clearly about good actions that are not based on love, and which have no reward. The same applies here: I can show myself to be humble, and make people see me as nice, however, more important is what God says about me. When he reads my intentions and motives, do they line up with his will or do I promote my own interests?

3. Look out for other people's interests. Easier said then done, especially when your own needs are crying out for attention. If God knew it was impossible, he wouldn't ask us to do it. If I acknowledge that I cannot do these things on my own, I realise that I need the help of God to do what he asks of me. I cannot rely on the force of convictions, or on the strength of my beliefs alone; I must constantly rely on God to help me, to strengthen me, to guide me as I seek to do his will.

God does not promise anywhere that it will be an easy road; he does not expect me to run alone, walk alone or fight alone, as he knows i will not make it alone. He promises me his ever-abiding presence and power. That is enough for me; is it enough for you too? His time of favour is here.
