But you, God , shield me on all sides; You ground my feet, you lift my head high. Psalm 3:3MSG
Who's Protecting You?
It is a difficult season or an opportunity to see God at work, depending on your perspective and focus. We are in a world of danger and trouble, and everywhere you turn, evil just seems to thrive. It is easy to give up and give in to fear, setting up man made structures that can guarantee protection. It is easy to rely on a fat bank account than it is to trust in a God of provision. It is easy to trust an investment plan than to trust a God of purpose and eternity. It all depends on your perspective. The Psalmist states a fundamental fact: God protects on all sides. There is no area of life that has not been addressed by God. He is the one who shields, protects, provides and keeps.
Also important is the fact that your foundation is key to your lifting. If you are not grounded in and by God, the days of trials will shake you. If you do not know God, any wind of popular falsehood will sweep you away. When all I have is trust in man made devices and establishments, I am simply telling God that he is my other option or one of my many alternatives, not my only means. I am telling God that I can take care of myself and I do not need much help.
Is my focus on God or goods? Is my heart pursuing after God's protection or my own peculiar devices? The day of testing is bound to come, the value of my faith will be tested, the depths of my convictions will be proven; will I be able to say with all my heart that: 'God, you are the only one for me? His time of favour is here.
