Thankfully Deep

Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness. Colossians 2:7 NLT

I cannot bear fruits until I have been appropriately planted and properly rooted. It is the start point of growth. There is a right kind of place for planting and that is in Christ alone. You cannot bear fruit if you are planted anywhere else- on position, possessions, privilege, wealth or connections. These things do not last, and cannot be trusted. God alone is the one who can guarantee deep roots and fruits.

When I have been properly rooted, then the building itself will be done properly. When I am founded on Christ himself, then my life makes impact. When his Word guides my thoughts and actions, I am set up to be a blessing. No other way can work- other grounds, no matter how solid they appear, will be sinking sand compared to the surpassing grace of knowing Christ.

When I have gotten the rooting and building right, fruitfulness is the natural consequence. Whatever kind of seed was sown would determine the kind of fruit that will be produced. Is my life founded on the Truth of God's Word or on convenient falsehood? Do men determine what I believe or am I guided by Truth himself?

Of course, Thanksgiving is an integral part of my life. I was made for praise, I was created to give God praise and I was made for his pleasure. Am I fulfilling that purpose? Is my life headed in that direction? Am I full of thanks or bitterness? Am I full of praise or complaints? That is the choice before me; it is the same for you. His time of favour is here.
