Action and Reaction!

But as for me, I will sing of Your mighty strength and power; Yes, I will sing joyfully of Your lovingkindness in the morning; For You have been my stronghold And a refuge in the day of my distress.
PSALM 59:16 AMP

It does not matter what has gone before or happened before: it matters what I do in the present. The power of the present is this: that is the only time you have control over. You cannot predict the next minute, but as long as you have breath now, you can determine what your life choice will be.

The Psalmist here had enemies on every side; in fact, the introduction to this psalm made reference to Saul's pursuit of David. However, he made a choice of focus: he would rather focus on God's mighty strength and power, than on the enemies' feeble attempts to kill him. It's all a matter of perspective. You can be so focused on enemies that you miss the greatness of God's power and might. We can celebrate the impact of the enemy around us by talking so much about him, or we can celebrate the eternal power and greatness of our God. It's all about perspective.

Your relationship with God will determine how you react in the face of the devil's attacks. When you are not sure of your stand in God, or you are distracted by the cares and worries that the devil magnifies before you, you will likely pursue options. But when you are like the Psalmist, sure of your stand, confident in the knowledge of God's greatness and certain about his power to preserve and keep, the only certain response is praise.

Hard days will come; distress will knock on the door; tribulations will sweep in, but when God is your refuge and praise is your lifestyle, you are founded right and you are bound to overcome. Don't let the world's view of success fool you; outside of Christ, nothing lasts. His time of favour is here.
