Personal!

Open your mouth and taste, open your eyes and see— how good God is. Blessed are you who run to him. Psalm 34:8 MSG

It is all personal. The walk is personal, the race is personal, the fight is personal and the choice of eternal dwellings is also personal. Nobody can walk your walk, run your race, fight your fight or settle eternity on your behalf; you will have to do all that by yourself, leaning on God alone.

Today's extract underscores that personal touch. By yourself, with your own mouth, you will have to prove that God is who he says he is. By taste, we acknowledge the quality of what has been cooked, and if something is not sufficient or too much. By yourself also, you will open your eyes to see and prove who God is. It is a personal thing, never a joint effort. When you know from taste, nobody can offer you anything of less quality. When you know from sight, nothing else will look like it if it is not the real deal. However, when you depend on other people's testimonials about their own personal taste and sight experiences, how would you prove who God is? When trials and difficult situations come, how do you find God in the midst of the distress when you have never really known him? If all you know about God is what others say about him, you have a long way to go.

You can only do yourself more good when you run towards God. He is always there, with open arms, seeking to lift us up and uphold us with his power. However, he does not force himself on anyone. I must seek him out, though he is not far. That is the way to true blessings. Whether you crawl, limp, walk, stagger or run, find your way to God. The benefits are eternal. His time of favour is here.
