I love the Lord , because He hears [and continues to hear] My voice and my supplications (my pleas, my cries, my specific needs). Because He has inclined His ear to me, Therefore I will call on Him as long as I live. PSALM 116:1-2 AMP
I am because God is. All I could ever become or do is tied to God's nature and power. One of the things that God has proven himself to be is a God who hears all prayers. It does not matter how the prayers are said; the key factor is the heart where the prayers proceed from. When you pray from the heart that loves God, the words and the attitude will always be different.
Check out today's extract again. It does not say that the writer loves God because he gives him all he wants. He simply loves God because he is one who listens. His response to my prayer is a function of who he is and his plans and purposes, not what I can give him. God hears and continues to hear, and because he is a God of mercy, his answers will always line up with his nature.
It takes maturity and a deep understanding of who God is to keep calling on God all the days of your life. Can you hold on to God in trouble like Daniel, in exile in a strange, godless land? Can you dare trust God totally for his strength like Paul, even when there is a thorn in the flesh? Even when you know that a brother and fellow disciple like James had just been killed, can you dare sleep in prison like Peter, even when you know that execution is just the next day?
God is not a magician. His plans and purposes are eternal, and I can only express my love for him when I cooperate with him. His plans are always good, no matter what they look like now. I learn to hold on, confident that God will sort me out and work out that which is his good, pleasing and perfect will for my life. His time of favour is here.
