but if anyone suffers [ill-treatment] as a Christian [because of his belief], he is not to be ashamed, but is to glorify God [because he is considered worthy to suffer] in this name. 1 PETER 4:16 AMP
There are no guarantees that a deep faith and complete trust in Christ insures you from suffering. It appears from the written accounts of God's dealings with men that a part of their growth and development process is learning from the school of adversity. It strengthens you, it tests your commitment and proves the value of what you hold on to.
Peter was qualified to speak on this matter. He was flogged at a time, he faced opposition, was even put in prison by Herod, though God rescued him. What of James who appeared to be 'unlucky'? What of John the Baptist, beheaded for speaking the truth to power? Being on assignment for God, speaking as he directs, when he directs and what he directs will not automatically shield you from suffering, but there is an assurance from God that he will make the experiences worth it.
Count it a privilege if you suffer because of the name you bear. If the name is right, the end will be right. His time of favour is here.
Prayer: Lord, no matter what I face, help me to focus on you alone, as you are the only One who can make it end right. Amen.
