The things which you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, practice these things [in daily life], and the God [who is the source] of peace and well-being will be with you. PHILIPPIANS 4:9 AMP
What could have qualified Paul to say the things he said in today's extract? Was he looking for a job, or was he engaged in personal marketing or branding? Why would he use his life as an example for people to follow; after all, we read about his past and it wasn't that exemplary: a man who assisted the mob in killing Stephen, who himself became a Jewish zealot, forcefully protecting the Jewish customs at the expense of the lives of people.
Fast forward a few years, and he's saying I should practice what I see in him. What made the difference between then and now? It is simply an encounter. A man whose life will change others must have met the God of change. A man whose life will speak to others must have itself been spoken to by the Word of Life. A life that will stand up and be God's living proof to the world would have been tested and approved by Him.
Can I like Paul, say the same thing? Can I stake my life as an example for others to follow? Do I even know who I am, or who I belong to? Impact is determined by encounter, and only a man who has submitted to God can conquer the world. For as long as I am under God's control, there is no limit to impact. I must therefore stay connected and teachable, if I am to keep making impact. Lives are waiting for the right examples to follow, lives are waiting for the right message; is my life one? His time of favour is here.
